Much of my older work has a bit of a darker feel to it. In many pieces, I’ve tried to create the impression of a lonely street (or the like). More recently, I’ve lightened up some of my paintings, a few even having a brighter feel. I’m not a ‘dark’ person – as a human… I’m an optimist, a dreamer, a believer . But I love the challenge of creating a scene that reflects a mood or emotion. Sometimes this is just made easier with color choices, sometimes it’s more than that. Below is a new piece, ‘Industrial District’ where through texture, palette and lighting I’ve tried to capture a street , reminiscent of one that we’ve all driven down... but during the deserted hours of the night. After texture was applied, I primarily painted this with a flat sponge brush. I have a few of these types of paintings (with a more industrial feel) started but this is the first to be completed.
