A number of years back I bought a book on Degas one of my Very, Very favorite artists of all time! I actually own 5 or 6+ books about him and his work but this one is more instructional/descriptive of his style and approach. How he achieved color, movement, atmosphere… It’s probably time to go back and read through it again. But this book is one of the reasons that I’ve come to LOVE painting in layers. It taught me that in the beginning stages, I don’t have to paint (the subjects) the colors that they’re supposed to be. I’m able and encouraged to work up to that. I apply this technique, to some degree, within most all of my work and in Aura I feel that you can really see some examples of the ‘building up’ of color, especially within the path the couple is taking.
