Not allllways but I have been known to get SO EXCITED and SO INSPIRED about something that I’m exploring (product, technique, theme, palette…) that before I know it I have SIX canvases at various stages of completion. When I find myself in the middle of these moments, I try to pause… take a moment to regroup and focus…. And remind myself that I don’t NEEEED to start six to find three! But here’s what usually happens.
From the original six, only half will survive/see completion. Two will eventually be ‘scrapped’ (completely painted over) as I’ve lost momentum or something about it, just isn’t working for me. And then usually one hangs around until I pick him up at a later date to see if I can breathe new life into it; saving parts and reinventing the parts that I don’t love.
The Big City was canvas number six in a group that I started a handful of months back. I actually brought it all the way to completion but then – there it sat. I didn’t love it! I wasn’t proud of it! It needed new life! I picked it up again this weekend saving only the street lines and completely repainted the rest in two inspired sittings. Finally in love with it and proud of it! So fun!!
