Creating Moods

When approaching a blank canvas, sometimes I have a pretty strong idea of what I hope the finished piece will look like, other times I go in with an open mind and let the process control the outcome. The only plan I had in this case was to try to create a certain ‘feel’ or mood within the painting. I completed about 95% of ‘Longing for Home’ in one sitting… actually in just a few hours. Which is an AWESOME experience because it doesn’t often work that way. Usually I have 3-6 pieces in process at any given time and switch back and forth between them. This piece just started developing the feel that I was searching for and I went with it.
