Behind the artwork

My Intro to Mixed Media Painting

A couple of years ago I was going through some big feelings about my work and found myself needing something more. My current process was so familiar to me that I craved the unfamiliar, something that gave me the element of surprise and that brought excitement back to the process.

I did a great deal of research to identify what type of art interested and excited me at this point in my life. I read some great books about art and about being an artist. I took several mini courses exploring different styles of art and a full course done by Louise Fletcher, called Find Your Joy, which seemed like destiny since I was currently creating The Joy Series and JOY was exactly what I was seeking.

Prior to this timeframe I painted with acrylics and acrylic mediums (only). It had been years since I had considered big changes in my work. Afterall, change can be scary! Time consuming! Frustrating! And expensive! But I was curious… and curiosity is amazing to an artist!

This was my entry point to Mixed Media and Abstract painting, and I believe that it’s only the beginning of an exciting evolutionary process. My mind is open, comfort zone destroyed and I’m having a wonderful time exploring the possibilities!
