Playing with Perspective

I’m constantly trying to challenge myself and look at my work in new ways. Sometimes this means changing the actual way that I paint, which I do often. Other times it’s just looking at a scene from a different angle or vantage point and then approach the canvas differently.

Just Over the Hill is the perfect example of this. The angle was especially challenging for me, with the way the streets come together and creating the illusion of looking up a small incline. Distant City has a curve in the road, but the curve way mainly added to lead you to the distant parts of the city. To make you wonder, what else is back there? Then the inclusion of the fog to create that mystical hazy feel that we see often in the NW.
