I really had fun creating these two new pieces! White Umbrella is a canvas size that I rarely paint on (Only 18” wide and 36” high). It added a challenge for me and I wanted something bold that could fit on a narrow wall. I make decisions on canvas size and orientation based on a number of things but in this case I considered artwork that could go in my own home. I have a few narrow walls and love big colorful artwork.
I really enjoy playing with depth and distance, and there are so many ways to go about it. Much of my work (where you’re looking down a city street) is done with varying levels of detail in the buildings. In The Long Road Ahead, I tried to create the feel of the city but not overdo the details. I wanted the main focus to be on the couple in the forefront, who seem to be beginning their journey together.
